What you'll do

Experience the breathtaking beauty of the Swiss Alps with a private hiking tour in the Zermatt region.

This is a whole day outdoor trip (8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.). The tour starts in Zermatt and takes you up to Gornergrat – a famous peak from where marvelous views of the Matterhorn and other peaks can be admired. On top, you will have a chance to stroll around, learn more about the mountain range, flora, and fauna of the high Alps, as well as enjoy refreshments at the hotel.

Upon your preference, you can hike to Riffelsee, a famous lake offering a perfect reflection of the Matterhorn’s silhouette. The length and difficulty of the hike will be adapted to your preferences.

The guide can suggest lunch spots and other attractions in the area.

Plan Of The Day

Pick-up :

Your guide will pick you up at 8:30 at your hotel in Zermatt. If you’re not staying in Zermatt, you will meet them at Gornergrat Train station.

Trip overview :

After a meet & greet, you will board the Gornergrat cogwheel train leaving at 9:10. As this train is very popular among tourists, it’s wise to show up earlier to take good spots. The trip takes approximately 30 minutes, and you will be able to admire fantastic views of the valley and the Matterhorn along the way.

Gornegrat is a mountain peak famous for its marvelous panoramic views of Matterhorn and other peaks, glaciers, and alpine valleys. There is a hotel, an observatory, and an entertainment center at the top. Here, you can hike to the very top of Gornegrat (15 minutes) to admire the sky-high peaks and the rough nature of the high Alps.

After enjoying the summit, you can take a ride or a hike down to Riffelsee and admire the most iconic view of Matterhorn, as its silhouette is reflected in the clear waters of Riffel Lake. Take pictures and stroll around, taking in the views.

Your expert guide will be happy to tell you more about the local flora, fauna, and geological structure of the Alps. They will also explain the history of alpinism and mountaineering and introduce you to local landmarks such as Monte Rosa Hut. While there, you will immerse yourself in the natural wonders of this stunning Alpine environment. Depending on your preferences and weather conditions, you can prolong the hike to the next train station.

Your guide will be happy to suggest the best places for lunch.

Return :

After the hike, your guide will assist you on the train ride back to Zermatt.

You will be back at your hotel around 4 p.m.
